    TakingITGlobal and Nabuur's Live Chat on Online Volunteering took place yesterday and it was a truly inspiring and energizing event! Participants had the opportunity to hear from international experts who shared tips and insights on the rich world of on-line volunteering, while experts had the chance to engage in conversation with a diverse group of young leaders. The attendance was high and our participants joined us from all corners of the world. Together, we discussed how volunteers can connect with each other, contribute their time and skill for a cause, and collaborate on-line to affect change.

  • Volunteer for the Planet November 3, 2009 | 2:52 PM

    It's nice to see that the hard work of volunteers is being recognized and appreciated! Volunteering for our Planet, a UNV program, is tracking voluntary efforts to adapt, innovate and mitigate environmental issues.

    They are inviting volunteers around the world to submit an estimate of how much time they have volunteered since June 5th, World Environment Day, and how much more time they will volunteer until December 5th, International Volunteer Day.

    They will use this information to send a message to the delegates of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen that people around the world are taking concrete action to fight climate change. You can add your hours

  • Interview with Charles Landry October 31, 2009 | 8:42 PM

    Charles Landry is an urban thinker from Europe who coined the term “creative city” in the late 1980s as a way to describe various economic and social changes happening at the time. Landry’s work calls for the need to create conditions for people to think, plan and act with imagination in harnessing opportunities or addressing seemingly intractable urban problems. His pioneering writings and consulting have innovated the way we think about individual potential and the role of urban centers. This interview took place during Day One of the Creative Places+Spaces conference in Toronto, Canada.

  • CP+S: Day Two. October 30, 2009 | 6:44 PM

    Day two of CP+S was a whirlwind of thoughts, best practices and inspiring ideas. The location moved from The Carlu to MaRS, where we were welcomed by Jospeh Rotman, chair of Canada Council of the Arts (CCA), who spoke about the difference between innovation and invention. Rotman believes that the term 'invention' is better than the word 'creation' because to create is to make something out nothing, whereas to invent is to acknowledge the external inputs that are part of the making of something. It is through the collaboration and convergence of fields, he argues, that we can create value that would otherwise not occur in our sileod roles.
