Join Our Multilingual Team

TakingITGlobal is always open to collaborations with new virtual volunteers! If you have stable access to a computer and an Internet connection, 3-5 hours a week to spare and a desire to get involved and contribute to the growth our community this is what you need to know:

Tasks

Our typical tasks range from: translation of the site, research, submission and editing of content, discussion board moderation, the creation of events and activities, and the facilitation of connections between members.

Positions

Our language teams are composed of:

Language & Engagement Coordinators:
manage and support the various language teams;
Volunteer Translators:
focus mostly on translation of content and important documents and use our Translation
Content Researcher & Editors:
work on internal and external research as well as content submission;
Platform Facilitator & Moderators:
keep an active profile on an on-going basis and work to enhance connections between members by moderating discussion board threads and/or by acting as a "role model" for members.

Time Commitment

There are no set times for volunteering, you will have a flexible schedule and can focus on topics and content that also match your interests. At times, you may be asked to focus on more specific tasks, or to submit work by a certain deadline, depending on need, but we strive to ensure that your experience with TIG is as rewarding and interesting as possible for you!

"Volunteerism is a highly dynamic and exciting field. It is both responsive to societal trends and a leader of those trends."

—Dr. Jeffrey Brudney, co-founder of the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations

10 Tips on Volunteering wisely

  1. 1

Know what your position is about.

Read the job description of the position that interests you and make sure you understand what its requirements are. If you do not have a copy of the job description, email us and we'll be happy to send you one!

  2. 2

Make sure you have a stable Internet connection available to you.

Because this is an online volunteering position, having a stable access to a computer and Internet connection is essential. If you want to get involved as a volunteer with our Multilingual team, please make sure that these are available for you! If not, don't worry, you can get involved in our on-line community in many other ways.

  3. 3

Consider the skills you have to offer.

Think about your past experiences and your interests, how do they complement the skills and responsibilities necessary for the position that interest you?

  4. 4

Think about how much you can commit.

Please make sure you can commit for the minimum weekly hours and our 6-month term before you sign on with the team, we rely on the efforts of dedicated virtual volunteers who can help us meet our goals! If you would like to contribute to the growth of the site but are unsure about your availability, we encourage you to consider becoming an active member on the platform and posting content in the language of your choice.

  5. 5

    Get to know your team.

Working with on-line volunteers from around the world is a truly rewarding experience, but not one free of its challenges. Take the time to get your know your team members—regular communication is an essential part of the success of the team… and it makes the experience a lot more fun!

  6. 6

Get to know the members in your region/language platform for inspiration.

Don't forget to familiarize yourself with your language platform- it will allow you to make inspiring connections with other TIG members, and to experience first-hand the value of your contribution as a TIG on-line volunteer!

  7. 7

    Don't over-commit your schedule.

Make sure you set realistic goals and expectations of yourself, and that your Coordinator is aware of your other commitments, so you don't take on too much work all at once.

  8. 8

    Plan ahead.

Make sure you incorporate your tasks as an on-line volunteering in your personal calendar—it will allow you to meet your deadlines with ease and on time!

  9. 9

    Ask questions.

If you are not sure what to work on, or how to complete a task, don't be afraid to ask. Your Language & Engagement Coordinator is there to support you!

  10. 10

    Learn new skills.

Remember to keep an open attitude towards new challenges—we often learn more about ourselves and our abilities by doing something new than by doing what we're already familiar with.
